Howdy Sugar Lovers!
“I started traveling the world in my teens to visit family, explore Europe as a college student, and later added sixty-five more countries around the world as a travel agent and ardent global visitor. I noticed that around the world, different sweetness were served with coffee and tea, and used in recipes. Some countries that were hot and humid naturally tended towards sweetness that had a higher melting point. Other parts of the globe offered me what they called sugar, but it was so different from the generic white stuff I had grown up with in rural Kankakee County, Illinois! I started to bring samples of these other sugars and sweeteners home with me to show off as souvenirs to my husband and friends. Finally, in 2012, I saw that many of these sugars were now offered in specialty shops. But I’m a person who loves to combine and experiment. And for the holidays that year, I offered jars of my global blends as gifts. Everyone went crazy! Coffee with the right sugar just tastes so much better! Over the years, I played around with adding spices, fresh citrus, and unique floral and savory ingredients - working out exactly what world sweetener and what flavors went together best. Then one day I was talking to an ex-bartender about what I was doing with my sugar blends, and he said, “You know what you are? A Gourmet Sugar Mixologist! Someone who combines culinary history, and traditional knowledge and adds innovative ideas!” And with that, Bellflower Blends was formed in 2024.
Now I work with a small creative team of people who help me in the kitchen and in the office. They make the days that much sweeter!
At Bellflower Blends, my goal is to create sugars that dazzle the eye, delight the palate, smell pleasing to the noise, and bring you joy.
